WSJL's 2005/2006 Chanukah Trip to Israel

The first day - the WSJL group arrived from Milwaukee at midnight on December 22, 2005 and went directly to the Western Wall.
12/23/05 - On our first full day in Israel, we saw the the Temple area excavations and visited the Cardo in the Old City of Jerusalem.
12/25/05 - We went to Tel Aviv and toured several sites related to modern Israeli history. In Founders Hall (Independence Hall) we listened to a recording of the 1948 United Nations vote for independence. We celebrated the 1st night of Chanukah in a Yemenite restaurant in Tel Aviv.
12/26/05 - Chanukah Past and Present: A visit to Modi'in and the Na'ot Kedumim Biblical Nature Reserve
We spent an evening wandering around Mahane Yehuda, an active open-air market in Jerusalem.
12/27/05 - Archeological Dig at Bet Guvrin and Chanukah Party in Jerusalem. The party, on the 3rd night of Chanukah, was hosted by WSJL for Milwaukeeans living in Israel.
12/28/05 - A Day of Learning: We studied at Melitz and visited Yad Vashem.
12/29/05 - We then headed north to Tzippori and Safed.
After spending the day at the synagogues and artists colony of Safed, we celebrated the fifth night of Chanukah at Kibbutz Lavi.
12/30/05 - We left beautiful Lavi and went on to volunteer at Beit Talia, which is in Tiberius and part of the Partnership 2K program.
